Prepare the Concrete Slab
Once you’ve got all your materials, it’s time to prep the concrete slab. Start by cleaning it up. Use a broom or a leaf blower to get rid of any dirt, debris, or loose concrete. You don’t want anything getting in the way of a good installation.
Then, mark the spots where you’re gonna put the posts. You can use a chalk line or spray paint to make straight lines. Make sure the spacing between the posts is right according to the size of your chain link fence. Usually, 6 to 10 feet between posts works well, but you can adjust it depending on your needs.
After that, drill holes in the concrete for the anchors. You’ll need a hammer drill and the right-sized drill bit for the anchors you’re using. Just follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the anchors to get the right depth and diameter for the holes. Install the Posts

Then, place the posts over the anchors and make sure they’re plumb (straight up and down). You can use a level to check this. If a post isn’t plumb, you can adjust it by tapping it gently with a hammer or using shims to hold it in place.
Once the posts are in the right position, tighten the nuts on the anchors to secure the posts to the concrete slab. Make sure they’re tight enough so the posts won’t move around, but don’t over – tighten them or you could crack the concrete.
Attach the Tension Bars and Bands
With the posts installed, it’s time to attach the tension bars and bands. The tension bars are what’ll help keep the chain link fence straight and tight. Start by placing the tension bars inside the top and bottom of the chain link fence. Then, use the bands to attach the tension bars to the posts. Wrap the bands around the post and the tension bar, and then use a screwdriver or a wrench to tighten them.
Make sure the tension bars are level and the bands are tight. You want the chain link to be held securely in place so it doesn’t sag or move around.
Install the Chain Link Fence
Now comes the fun part – installing the chain link fence itself. Unroll the chain link fence next to the posts. Start at one end of the fence and use fence ties to attach the chain link to the tension bars and posts. You can use a pair of pliers to twist the fence ties around the chain link and the bars or posts.
Work your way along the fence, making sure the chain link is straight and tight. If you need to make a cut in the chain link, you can use a pair of bolt cutters. Just measure the length you need and make a straight cut.
As you’re installing the chain link, keep checking to make sure it’s level and that there aren’t any gaps or loose sections. You might need to adjust the tension of the chain link as you go to make sure it’s nice and tight.
Finish Up
Once the chain link fence is installed, you can add the post caps to the tops of the posts. This not only looks nice but also helps protect the posts from water damage and rust.
Take a step back and check your work. Make sure the fence looks good and is secure. If there are any loose fence ties or areas that need tightening, go ahead and fix them.
